Why didn't the last renovation work?

1997 Renovation

  • In 1997, the City of San Diego’s improvements to Qualcomm Stadium were:
    • Expanding seat capacity from 60,818 to approx. 71,400, providing 7,800 club seats at the loge level, increase the number of skyboxes from 79 to 105 and install two new scoreboards.
  • The City approved this as a temporary solution to attract the Super Bowl to San Diego again. The biggest problems remain:
    • Inadequate bathrooms, poor sight lines, poor concession areas, outdated sound system, narrow concourses, inferior premium seating facilities and outdated media facilities.
