Decision Time for the City
It's decision day for the City of San Diego and the Chargers. On Monday, April 26, a proposal to resolve the current lease impasse will be presented to the San Diego City Council. For the past week, City negotiators and the Chargers have worked together to develop a lease that is agreeable to both parties. (Click here for an overview.) Now it's time for the Council to debate the proposal's merits and the Council Members need to HEAR FROM YOU!
It is important that the public be engaged in this process. We urge you to plan to attend the City Council meeting or to send an e-mail to Council Members. This is a win-win proposal that keeps professional and collegiate football alive in San Diego and saves the City hundreds of millions of dollars to pay police and firefighters. It eliminates the ticket guarantee, ends litigation, and ensures lease payments of $2.5 million/year through at least the 2008 season. It is the first step toward keeping the Chargers, Super Bowls, Holiday Bowls and Aztecs Football in San Diego.
The meeting starts at 2 p.m., Monday, April 26, in the City Council Chambers, 202 C Street, 12th Floor. You do not have to speak at the meeting if you choose not to; only sign a slip for support and wear a support sticker. We want to show the Council and the television viewing audience that the San Diego community supports this proposal. Please consider strongly our request that you join us at this meeting. It is an important day for the future of our community.
